Many diving resorts around the world have house reefs and it’s well worth making use of them. In the video below I talk about why I’m so keen on house reef diving, what makes a good house reef and some of the ones I’ve dived. I’ve included some links to resort websites etc on this blog beneath the video.
This is the uncut video recorded live from Facebook. It’s quite informal and there may be one or two swear words. I start talking about one minute into the recording. There’s a bit of pre-amble and then I start specifically talking about the subject at around 5 minutes in.
The first resort we stayed at that offered unlimited house reef diving was the Hyatt Regency, Sharm El Sheikh where the dive centre was run by Red Sea Waterworld who were linked to Red Sea Diving College. It has been a while since we last dived there but I’m sure the Middle Garden will still be a good dive site.
One thing I didn’t mention was the advantage for people with non-diving family members. House reef diving means you can get dives in without having to spend a morning or day away from your family.
Marsa Shagra is where we run Red Sea Photo Camp with Paul Duxfield. The resort is one of three owned by Red Sea Diving Safari and we’ll be running RSPC 2021 there from the 8th to 19th June. Marsa Nakari is another of Red Sea Diving Safari’s resorts that also offers unlimited house reef diving.
Alami Alor is a resort in the Alor archipelago in Indonesia, we travelled there as a two centre trip with Dive Safari Asia.
Scuba Seraya in Bali and Critters at Lembeh in North Sulawesi both house reefs with superb critter/muck diving. The other resort in Indonesia I mentioned was Tasik Ria which doesn’t offer unlimited house reef but has excellent ‘house reefs’ accessible by a short boat journey.
The resorts in Bonaire in the Caribbean that I mentioned were Buddy Dive and Captain Don’s
The UK dive centres I mentioned were Puffin Dive in Oban, Scotland and Porthkerris in Cornwall
I’m continuing to do talks like this about diving and underwater photography every Thursday at 8pm UK time for the foreseeable future. Go to our Facebook page to watch and check out some of the other blogs I’ve done based around the previous talks.
