The Backscatter Mini Flash 2 Strobe for Underwater Photography: Video and extra info

My latest YouTube video is a look at the Backscatter Mini Flash 2 strobe. It’s a strobe primarily designed for underwater macro photography and is packed with features. Below the video you’ll find details of pricing for the strobe and the substantial range of accessories we sell specifically for it.

Strobe

As mentioned in the video the MF2 comes with a ball mount, a YS mount, a diffuser, and an Allen key to fit the mounts. You can buy the strobe on its own for £390 or you can get the strobe with the snoot included for £500.40. Batteries are not included and a pair of the ones Backscatter recommend along with a charge costs another £72.

Accessories

As you will gather from watching the video there is a quite substantial range of accessories you can add to your Mini Flash set up.

The OS-1 Optical Snoot can be purchased as a separate item to add to your MF2, original Mini Flash or the Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light. Cost is £140.40, so take care not to lose one. If you do mislay one of the Aperture Cards you can get replacements for these at £14.95 each.

If you want to get creative and add different colours into your shots then there is a Color Filter System available as a bundle for £120. The bundle includes appropriate mounts to use filters on both versions or the Mini Flash, the Macro Wide 4300 light and in conjunction with the snoot as well. You then get two sets of filters one bold and one pastel shades with a choice of 6 colours in each set.

For using the wireless off camera triggering that the Mini Flash offers there is a specialist filter to fit to your triggering strobe to cut out the visible light when using it purely as a trigger. The catchily titled Remote Lighting System Infrared IR Filter will set you back £39 and of course you will need two MF2’s to use it. There’s also a Remote Lighting Muck Stick (£45.60) to mount your off camera MF2 on when using it on a sandy sea bed.

For fibre optic cables it’s wise to invest in a good quality multi core cable as the sensor is still not as sensitive as those found in Inon strobes for instance. I used a 43cm INON cable with right angled rubber bushes that we sell for £57.
